- Position Summary: Atonement Lutheran Church (ELCA) of Boulder, Colorado is seeking a musician to lead our music ministry team beginning in August. The 20-hour-per-week Cantor position works with the Pastors, music staff and members of Atonement Lutheran Church to support the congregation�??s worship life; to coordinate the music program of the congregation; and to proclaim the faith of the congregation through the ministry of music. Duties include directing the adult choir, leading a small vocal and instrumental ensemble, supervising music staff, and planning weekly worship services in collaboration with the Pastors.
ESSENTIAL TO POSITION
�?� An understanding of the Lutheran faith, the biblical story and an ability to select, rehearse, create and lead music that support Christian worship and life.
�?� A degree in music performance or music education or equivalent experience.
�?� Experience in choral conducting to direct a volunteer choir as well as skills to lead small vocal and instrumental groups in traditional, as well as diverse and global musical styles and genres.
�?� Knowledge of the choral repertoire so as to be able to select music that is suited to the Lutheran liturgy as practiced at Atonement Lutheran Church.
�?� Knowledge of the global music repertoire so as to be able to select music that is suited to the less formal styles of worship as practiced at Atonement Lutheran Church.
�?� Leadership skills suited to supervising the music ministry team, which is comprised of additional music staff and volunteers.
�?� Creative skills in worship planning of traditional services as well as less formal services.
�?� Availability to attend weekly staff meetings; worship planning meetings and monthly committee meetings.
DESIRED FOR POSITION
�?� It is preferred that the Cantor will become an active participant of our faith community.
�?� Keyboard skills and/or other instrumental skills a plus.
