Dr. Wayne L. Wold is Professor of Music at Hood College in Frederick, Maryland, and Director of Music Ministry at First Lutheran Church (ELCA) in Ellicott City, Maryland. He holds degrees from Concordia College in Minnesota, Wittenberg University in Ohio, and Shenandoah Conservatory in Virginia, who named him “Alumnus of Excellence in 2015.” He has led numerous workshops on various topics relating to church music and is a frequent performer of improvised hymn festivals and organ and harpsichord recitals. In addition to performing as a soloist, he has performed with the Maryland Symphony Orchestra, the Frederick Symphony Orchestra, the Bach in Baltimore Orchestra, the Hood Chamber Players, and others. He is the author of three books and numerous articles, and over 350 of his compositions have been published. His hymn texts and tunes appear in hymnals in the U.S. and Australia, and in the last two years he has won three hymn-writing competitions–one from Eastman School of Music, one from the ELCA in their “God’s Work, Our Hands” project, and one from the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians. He is active in ALCM, The Hymn Society, and the American Guild of Organists where he serves as Regional Councillor for the Mid-Atlantic Region.
