The Worship and Music Director will work to enhance the existing worship and music programs as well as add additional music ministries at Ascension. This person will encourage, inspire and nurture on-going faith formation through worship and music opportunities within the church.


Worship & Music Duties:

·         Plan worship and music in consultation with pastors

·         Supervise and schedule all paid and volunteer music staff

·         Responsible for directing some music, worship and fine art groups as well as recruiting and supporting other music leaders.

·         Ensure compliance with applicable copyright law and maintain music library.

·         Oversee schedule of maintenance for instruments

·         Draft and manage the music budget in cooperation with the Worship & Music Team

·         Plan special seasonal programs such as during Lent and Advent

·         Encourage use of dance, art and drama in worship

·         Identify and recruit those with musical gifts to lead and/or participate in worship

·         Coordinate AV/power point presentations with Communication Coordinator and AV Tech


Other Duties:

·         Attend Worship and Music Team meetings

·         Attend weekly staff meetings

·         Provide a written monthly report of activities to Church Council

·         Publicize information and resources to the congregation through the monthly newsletter, take home sheets, mailings and website

·         Help grow participation and attendance at worship services

·         Be available to assist musical activities and programs with the Admin Asst of Faith Development; such as Christmas program, Milestones, Vacation Bible School and Sunday  School



·         Education: Bachelor’s degree in music discipline and/or music ministry experience

·         Skilled in vocal and/or instrumental performance and directing

·         Good relational and communication skills, both written and oral

·         Skilled in music composition software

·         Strong Christian background that includes an understanding of Lutheran history, traditions, and theology

·         Solid grasp of both traditional and contemporary issues in Lutheran worship

·         High level of organizational skills

·         Knowledgeable about AV equipment
