Start Date:  Anticipate September 1st, but may be delayed because of COVID-19 restrictions.

Salary:  $14,000-16,500 commensurate with experience and based on workload

Hours:  10-15 hours/week estimated

Traditional Saturday night service – 5:30pm
Traditional Sunday service – 8am
Contemporary Sunday Service – 10:45am
Weekly Wednesday evening Chancel choir rehearsal 7:30-8:30pm
Choir/praise team rehearsals one hour before worship
Organ: Allen Renaissance

Paid Time off: Two weekends

September-May
5:30pm Saturdays, traditional worship (including prelude & postlude)
8am Sundays, traditional worship (including prelude & postlude)
10:45am Sundays, contemporary worship (practice at 9:45am Sundays)
Special Worship Services
Traditional:  Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday,
Good Friday, Easter

Mid-week:  Advent, Lent

Current Music Ministries Rehearsal Schedule

September-May
Wednesdays, 7:30-8:30pm Chancel Choir
September-August
Sundays, 9:45-10:45am Praise Team

Job Responsibilities

Facilitate the congregation in singing and worshiping through the excellent musical execution of hymns and liturgy.
Rehearse sufficiently to maintain a high quality of  music.
Must be proficient at playing 2 ½ octaves of  foot pedals, using stops, programming, set registrations appropriate to the style of music.  (This organ also has midi capabilities).  Allen Renaissance organ
Provide quality organ and piano music for all worship services and all seasonal and special services. (Selections are taken primarily from the Evangelical Lutheran Worship (ELW)  hymnal but also extend to contemporary worship music, spirituals, Taizé hymns, and other sources).
Select appropriate prelude, postlude, offertory and communion music for worship services that reflect the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) themes of the church year.
Collaborative pianist for the Chancel Choir and periodic instrumental or vocal soloists.
Communicate in a positive manner with all staff members and members of the congregation.
Work cooperatively with the Ministry Partner staff member and Music and Worship Team.  Will participate as a member of the Music and Worship team and participate in worship planning as needed  (4/year).
Submit titles and composers of musical selections to the office staff in a timely manner for inclusion in bulletins/screens.
Arrange for qualified substitute organist or pianist when absent for church services and notify the church office in advance.
Arrange for organ and piano maintenance and tuning with a qualified organ and piano repair person as needed.
Provide quality piano skills required for playing for the choir and contemporary worship service.
Provide organ and piano music for weddings and funerals, if available, and be permitted to receive additional compensation from the parties involved.

Performance Review

Will be done after first six months, then annually
Report to Head of Staff

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor’s Degree in Music or or equivalent experience through private study
Knowledge of hymnody, or a willingness to learn
Ability to sight read simple SATB/2-clef arrangements
Knowledge of liturgically-based worship, especially within the context of Lutheran worship or a willingness to learn.
Flexibility to work with professional musicians and volunteers alike
Ability to lead congregational singing
Ability to collaborate with staff with a church setting
Choose appropriate preludes and postludes and submit them to church office in a
timely manner

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree or higher in organ performance
Substantive experience of previous work as an organist in sacred music
Strong sight reader, and ability to read open scores effectively
Strong knowledge of hymnody, especially those hymns which are strongly connected to the ELCA tradition and the ability to improvise
Strong knowledge of liturgically based worship, and common liturgical settings used within the ELCA church
Operate and manage the bell tower (will train)

Interview/Audition Process

Prospective applicants shall demonstrate proficiency in an audition/interview to be scheduled upon completion of the solicitation process. The audition will include the following.
Two musical selections chosen by the prospective musician. One hymn and one Prelude/Postlude.
One musical selection chosen by the interview panel in praise style on the piano.
Sight-read a choral accompaniment.
