Delving into All Creation Sings

Come to Zion Lutheran in Anoka, MN for a day of exploration, song, and fellowship exploring All Creation Sings the new worship resource from Augsburg Fortress. Jonathan Campbell, Katie Anne Kohler, and John Helgen will facilitate music workshops on music from All Creation Sings in four sessions: Traditional music, contemporary/band, Communion liturgies in a variety of styles, and a round table conversation. Our goal is to introduce as much material from All Creation Sings as possible to local Lutheran church musicians and provide valuable social time to connect socially and professionally.

Presenters

Jonathan D. Campbell has served as a Lutheran church musician for over twenty years. He has a BA from Luther College, a Master of Sacred Music from Luther Seminary, and a DMA in choral conducting from North Dakota State University. Jonathan also conducts the Minnesota Renaissance Choir and is an award-winning composer published by Augsburg Fortress, Concordia, and other leading publishers.

Katie Anne Kohler is the Director of Worship and Music at Light of Christ Lutheran Church in Delano, MN. She holds a masters of music performance from the University of Minnesota. Katie is a proficient pianist, flutist, vocalist, organist, and she leads the contemporary worship team at Light of Christ.

Since 2003, John Helgen has served as Director of Music at Roseville Lutheran Church (ELCA) in St. Paul, Minnesota. A native of Minnesota, he attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN, receiving a B.A. in Music Theory/ Composition, studying piano, organ, voice as well as the euphonium. He was a member of the St. Olaf Band and the St. Olaf Choir. He is a graduate of the University of Minnesota School of Law. He currently resides in Minneapolis where he is active as a piano player, arranger, composer, performer, and producer. He is the author of about seventy five published choral anthems and arrangements as well as numerous resources for worship. His piano collection for worship, “The Earth Adorned”, was published in 2022 by Augsburg Fortress.

Martin A. Seltz is a retired ELCA minister of word and sacrament. Most recently he served the ELCA’s publishing ministry (1994-2023) as vice president and publisher for congregational resources, with responsibilities that included the Evangelical Lutheran Worship family and its 2020 supplement All Creation Sings, as well as other worship resources from With One Voice (1995) onward. At Christ Church Lutheran, Minneapolis (2001-2022), he served as one of the cantors. Martin has also served in leadership roles with the North American Academy of Liturgy (NAAL), the Institute of Liturgical Studies, and the Hymn Society. He has received NAAL’s Berakah Award, the Christus Rex Award from the Institute of Liturgical Studies, the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, and the Loehe Award from Wartburg Theological Seminary.
