Charles Russell, Director of Traditional Music at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Macomb, MI, will be playing all of the hymns in Lutheran Service Book (a total of 635) at St. Peter on Friday, June 23 starting at 9:00 a.m. and going until 7:00 p.m. at the earliest. Each hymn will include an introduction and one stanza. Come in-person or join us online (https://www.youtube.com/@st.petermacomb7782/streams) to sing the Church’s treasury of music that comforts and edifies us as we respond with thanksgiving for what God has done for us in Christ Jesus.
A free-will offering will be collected to support the traditional music ministry at St. Peter, in particular the continued stewardship and maintenance of the pipe organ. You may give either in-person at the offering basket or online (https://stpetermacomb.com/church/ and click on the “Giving” tab; look at the form for the line item reading “Marathon of Hymns (Organ Fund)”).
Every fifteen minutes, the upcoming hymn number will be announced.
Our hymnal contains words and music which have nourished God’s people throughout the ages going back to the Old Testament, in particular the Psalms; these hymns not only teach God’s Word but also unite us with the saints who have gone before us in the faith and now continue this song in heaven.
The pipe organ at St. Peter is a 53-rank Schantz/Muller, which was originally built and installed in 1970 at Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Detroit. After being purchased by St. Peter for the present sanctuary, it was rebuilt by Muller and installed here in 2005.
