Music Positions PART Time or FULL Time

Director of Choral and Instrumental Ensembles – The Director is called to lead, coordinate, direct, and care for the choir and all the vocal and instrumental ministries of the church for all ages, including soloists, planning music and choosing hymns in consult with pastor that fit with the weekly worship themes and seasons. This part-time role (approx. 15 hours per week) is for a skilled choral conductor who loves people and has gifts in creativity, coordination, recruitment, empowerment, and teaching. Communication with the AV team and staff about each service’s music is crucial. Previous experience in choral conducting expected.  Twelve month salary: $20,000-25,000. Four weeks vacation or continuing education.

Worship Accompanist/Organist – The Worship Accompanist/Organist is called to lead the congregation in worship, including funerals and weddings, by providing instrumental accompaniment for the congregation and choirs, on both organ and piano, as well as working with choral director, guitarists, and  other instrumentalists. This part-time role (approx. 15 hours per week during the programming year and 5 hours per week during the months of June and July) is for a skilled musician with gifts in organ and piano who loves people and feels called to congregational ministry. Previous experience in music ministry expected.  Twelve-month salary: $15,000-20,000. Four weeks vacation or continuing education.

Director of Handbell Choir – The Handbell Director is called to lead, coordinate, and direct the ministry of the Handbell Choir. This part-time role (approximately 5 hours per week from August 1 through May 31) is for a skilled bell choir conductor who loves people and has gifts in creativity, coordination, recruitment, empowerment, and teaching. Previous experience expected.  Ten-month stipend: $5,000.

Director of Musical Outreach is called to plan and coordinate the Concert Series and to work with the Outreach Team for the successful recruitment of talent and supervision of all musical activities that  happen at Peace for the community and congregation.  Annual Stipend: $2,000.

Director of Music and Organist is a FULL-time position that combines the various activities listed above and provides additional benefits and a commensurate salary. This person is called to do all of the above and to be a team player with other staff – FT with medical and dental benefits, plus a matching retirement contribution.

Peace is a growing, intergenerational congregation of 350 participants, celebrating 15 years of joyful and energized ministry.  Music has been an integral part of the life of the church’s development as we have been committed to a diversity of musical styles, not dividing into contemporary and traditional worship services.  The congregation of 200 worshippers in person and 40 households online enjoys hearing organ and piano, guitar and djembe, flute and harp, violin and cello, bells and trumpet.  We value classical music, old and new hymns, spirituals, gospel, folk, jazz, global, and contemporary pieces.  At times, Peace has had as many as five musical groups and in 2024, the choir is 30 members strong with a handbell choir of eight ready to be re-developed.  Youth instrumentalists (all levels) and children’s music are valued by the congregation, as well as occasional paid professional soloists or instrumentalists.

With a program and pastoral staff of six persons, this church’s mission is to make God known by growing as disciples of Jesus Christ, building a community of peace, and caring for the needs of others.  We are open and affirming congregation that values compassionate care of participants, while also engaging in mission and social justice in the community.

Peace is a weekly Eucharist church which offers lively traditional services using the Glory to God Hymnal.   Services are held in a comfortable and attractive sanctuary enhanced by the installation of an ALLEN organ GENISYS™ G340 (Three Manuals, 58 Stops with GeniSys™ Voices) organ.

The Directors are accountable to the Pastor, Head of Staff, and resources the Worship & Music Team and collaborates with the Outreach Team.

We are hoping to find someone who will bring energy, intelligence, imagination, and love as well as outstanding musical ability to this position.  We desire persons who will be engaged and involved in the life of the congregation, serving as role model for all ages.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

1.       Promote and encourage youth participation in liturgy and music.

2.       Encourage, plan, and support drama groups as they participate in worship.

3.       Communicate well with music groups and encourage greater participation in the musical programs.

4.       Provide compassionate care for all members of the church, especially those in music groups: staying in touch in person, and via email, Zoom, and phone calls.

5.       Plan rehearsals to be learning and enjoyable experiences for musicians of all ability levels.

6.       Support participants in their efforts to improve their musical abilities.

7.       Manage the music budget as a good steward of resources.

8.       Maintain music library and equipment and keep all licensing and permissions up-to-date.

9.       Communicate well with the congregation via newsletter, bulletin, and occasional weekly emails.

10.    Proof bulletins and ppts for accuracy of musical elements.

Qualifications & Skills:

B.A. degree in music, M.A. preferred

Proficient in piano and organ (preferred)

Proficient in directing groups of various skills

Experience with handbell choir and music orchestrations (preferred)

Experience with computers and social media a plus

Experience working with volunteers of varying age, talent, and commitment levels
