Position Description – Accompanist (Organ/Piano)
Purpose Of The Position(s):
The accompanist provides organ and piano accompaniment for all worship services and music
ministry related events of St. Timothy Lutheran Church.
Position(s) Classification:
This is a part time position as needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the position(s).
Skills and Qualifications:
1. A minimum of a Bachelor of Music degree.
2. Ability to work with vocalists, choirs, and instrumentalists, accompanying hymns, anthems,
contemporary worship songs, and special musical numbers.
3. Ability to sight-read music and transpose if necessary.
4. Ability to adapt to various styles of music, including traditional hymns and contemporary worship songs.
5. Ability to manage multiple musical responsibilities (e.g., accompanying the choir, playing
preludes/postludes, and performing as a soloist or in small groups).
6. Strong communication skills to work with the Director of Music Ministry, and other worship
leaders.
Direct Supervisor:
Works under the direct supervision of the Director of Music Ministry.
Position(s) Responsibilities:
1. Accompany weekly choir rehearsals (Wednesdays) and weekly worship services (Saturday
evening and Sunday morning worship).
a. This includes but is not limited to preludes, hymns, offertories, postludes, and choral
anthems.
2. Accompany additional worship services during the year (Holy Week, Easter, Christmas Eve,
Lenten Services).
3. Accompany vocalists and instrumentalists as scheduled.
4. Have first refusal to provide organ/piano music for all weddings and funerals held at the church.
Fees for these services are not provided by the church, but are honorariums from couples and
families at an amount determined by church policy.
5. Provide advanced notice for all absences so a substitute can be secured.
6. When necessary, notify the Director of Music Ministry when maintenance is needed for the organ and piano.
