We give thanks to God for David Cherwien’s father Walter, who joined the heavenly chorus on October 26. The obituary follows.
Walter Thomas Cherwien, age 93, died of natural causes on Saturday, October 26, 2024. He is survived by spouse of 72 Years, Marian (Hove), children Thomas (Diane), Paul (Christine), David, Mary Lechelt (David), and Stephen (Kathy), 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, brother Daniel (Arlene) and many nieces, nephews and extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Mathilda; sister Virginia, and daughter-in-law Susan Palo Cherwien (David). A graduate of Luther College and University of Iowa, he taught music in Sumner and West Union, Iowa, and at Wayzata High School, Wayzata MN from 1958 – 1990, choral music then switching to French in 1971. His love of the French language and culture inspired him to lead numerous educational trips and travel to France. He was a professional musician as tenor soloist and directed numerous church choirs in the Twin Cities area. He is loved and missed beyond words. Visitation on All Saints Day, Friday, November 1, 2024 at 12 Noon, followed by Requiem Eucharist at 1:30 pm at Mount Olive Lutheran Church (3045 Chicago Ave S, Minneapolis) with live stream at mountolivechurch.org.
