General:
Coordinate and oversee the music of Redeemer, accompanying worship, directing the choral ensembles, handbell choirs, and participating in the worship and music planning for the services. The responsibilities of the many music ministries of Redeemer may reflect a full-time position, and we are open to discussion in light of the gifts each candidate brings.
Responsibilities:
· Provide choral/vocal music and accompaniment for the regular worship services and other services (Lent, Advent).
· Find and order new choral music matching the abilities of the choir. Follow copyright laws.
· Direct weekly choral rehearsals and other rehearsals as needed.
· Direct or arrange for direction of the handbell choirs (Usually late August – May).
· Develop, coordinate and/or direct children and youth vocal choir programs.
· Coordinate music for events like Community Summer Music Camp, VBS, Christmas program, etc.
· Assist integrating children and youth into worship life and leadership.
· Coordinate, hire, and direct musicians when appropriate to augment the music at worship.
· Hire and supervise Redeemer’s Choral Scholars (paid section leaders).
· Assist with organizational matters like filing of music, maintenance of instruments, etc.
· Work with the Pastor(s) in planning worship.
· Promote a cohesive, unified music program.
· Oversee any volunteer or paid directors or musicians.
· Attend meetings of the Worship and Music Committee and church staff.
· Oversee the tuning and maintenance and repair of the organ, pianos, and other instruments.
· Prepare and annual budget for review by Worship and Music and submission to Finance.
· Communicate to the congregation about the music program of the church.
· Coordinate the payment of funds for expenditures of the church’s music program.
· Provide or arrange for the music for all weddings and funerals held at the church. Additional fees may be negotiated with the wedding party.
· Arrange for substitute director for services/rehearsals when the Director is not present.
· Participate in continuing education as provided for in the church’s budget.
· May use church facilities for external teaching and performance as allowed by the church schedule (private piano lessons, etc.).
· Perform other duties as needed.
Requirements
· Be an active member of a Christian Church, preferably the ELCA.
· Preference for bachelor’s degree in music and experience directing choral and handbell choirs.
· High level of competence in leading liturgical worship, mastery of the organ, and conducting
· Productive organizational skills
· Good administrative and communication skills.
· Be familiar with or willing to learn liturgical worship, the Church Year, and appropriate musical repertoire for Lutheran worship.
