Director of Music Ministries

McFarland Lutheran Church (MLC) is seeking a faith-filled person to lead the music ministry of MLC. MLC is where ‘Sharing God’s Word, Showing God’s Love, and Serving God’s World’ is prevalent in what we do each day. Affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America we were established over 150 years ago. Our members live in McFarland, Wisconsin and surrounding communities such as Madison. And our preschool – Child Life Ministries – provides preschool classes, day care, after school, and school-age childcare to up to 80 children.

As our Director of Music, you will generally work 30 hours each week. You are responsible for the coordination of, development of, and promotion of music in all aspects of MLC programs, groups, and with members of all ages.

Examples of your work activities include:

·        Music selection for worship services that aligns with scripture readings and liturgical season

·        Lead and develop existing music groups which includes Choir, Handbell Choir, and Praise Band

·        Manage audio, visual and live-streaming equipment

·        Promote congregation musical involvement

·        Participate in weekly staff meetings

To be successful in performing your position responsibilities, you will have/be:

·        Bachelor’s degree in music or music related field (preferred)

·        Knowledge of Lutheran theology and worship practice or willingness to be trained in this area

·        Experience leading and directing music groups/choirs

·        Experience with or knowledge of audio, visual, and/or live-streaming equipment (Preferred. Training will be available.)

·        Skill and competency on an instrument to be used in worship leadership (currently we have a pianist/organist).

·        Strong interpersonal skills
