​Join us for this Denver ALCM workshop to gain ideas and expertise for your church music leadership while networking with area musicians. The day begins with a music swap of used choral music, hymnals, and sheet music for participants to take home with them. Following Morning Prayer, morning workshop topics include:

  • Keyboard Improvisation
  • Information about Certification in the American Guild of Organists
  • Anatomy of the Singing Voice
  • Vocal Pedagogy in the Choral Rehearsal

Following lunch another set of workshops includes

  • Handbell Heroics
  • Adapting the Organ for Pianists Needing to Play Organ

The day concludes with a worship service featuring hymns from the entire church year.

Schedule

9:00 am registration through 2:45 pm departure. The day includes morning prayer, two tracks of workshops, lunch, one track of workshops, and closing worship. Please register by Tuesday, April 16.

Presenters

Ms. Denise Lanning is organist at Calvary Baptist Church of Denver and serves as the certification coordinator and education coordinator of the Denver Rocky Mountain Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. She holds the Guild’s Fellowship certificate and has authored a workbook on improvisation entitled In the Beginning…An Encounter with Improvisation at the Organ.

The Rev. Kent Mueller served ELCA parishes in Ohio and Colorado prior to serving on the bishop’s staff in the Rocky Mountain Synod. He now is overjoyed to be a passionate music participant and volunteer at Augustana Lutheran Church, including serving as the Assistant Director of the Augustana Ringers.

Mr. Blake Nawa’a, currently in his ninth year as the tenor soloist and section leader at Augustana Lutheran Church, is a full-time musician (i.e. accomplished part-timer), working across the Denver area as a performer, chorister, voice teacher, and music director. He holds degrees in vocal performance and choral conducting from the University of Denver, and his more “permanent” gigs include teaching Applied Voice at Regis University, acting as Assistant Artistic Director of the Colorado Chorale, and music directing and performing with the seasonal Original Dickens Carolers.

Mr. Andrew Peters is director of music and organist at Augustana Lutheran Church in Denver where he plays for all worship services and directs choirs and handbell choirs. He plays as organist with the St. Louis Symphony and previously served for fourteen years as director of music and organist at Second Presbyterian Church in St. Louis.
