The Concordia Vocal Jazz Choir was formed in the fall of 2006 and has earned a reputation for fine singing of jazz/pop influenced choral music, touring throughout the United States performing concerts and school assemblies. The choir has traveled to Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, California, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, South Dakota, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas
Concordia’s Vocal Jazz Choir has performed in churches, schools and concert venues across the country including The Schoolhouse at Mainstreet in Parker, Colorado, the historic Sheldon Concert Hall in St. Louis, Missouri, and the Lied Center for the Performing Arts in Lincoln, Nebraska.
The addition of vocal jazz to Concordia’s choral offerings was designed in part, to better prepare vocal education students to teach a greater breadth of choral music repertoire in the schools. Recent concerts have featured performances of music made famous by The New York Voices, Take Six, The Real Group and Manhattan Transfer, and others.
Students in the choir are representative of a diverse cross section of academic disciplines from within the university. They are chosen by audition, and all are members of the University A Cappella Choir, an internationally acclaimed touring concert choir of 72 members.
