Part-time Organist & Piano Accompanist

Position: Part-time Organist & Piano Accompanist

Purpose: To provide organ and piano music for worship services, choir(s), special music, and other church functions

Supervision: The organist serves under supervision of the Director of Music.

Responsibilities:

• Accompany worship services comprised of liturgy and hymns and some more contemporary music, choir(s), and special music.
• Two services each Sunday from September through May.
• One service each Sunday from June-August.
• Additional services including (but not limited to) Ash Wednesday, Wednesday Lenten services, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Christmas Eve.
• Accompany choir(s) and special music during and in preparation for worship.
• Wednesday evening adult choir rehearsal from September through May.
• Provide Prelude and Postlude music selecting music which reflects the liturgical season of the year or theme of the day.
• Offer recommendations regarding music and service continuity when requested by the pastor and/or music director.
• Occasionally assist others in learning new songs or rehearsing for special music.
  Schedule qualified substitutes for all absences.
• Provide musical support for additional church events like “Carols, Cocoa, Crafts, and Ale” and “Winterfest”.

Education, Skills, and Abilities:

• Display a professional level of musical talent from training and experience
• Instill enthusiasm for those singing
• Sight-read choir music during rehearsal
• Have a working knowledge of the congregation’s worship services and a theological understanding of church music
• Be able to communicate well and in a friendly manner with staff, worship and music leaders, and members of the congregation
• Additional Opportunities: Provide organ or piano music for weddings and funerals as your schedule allows.
