Church Musician

Holy Cross is a Lutheran (ELCA) church that strives to be inclusive and fully welcoming. In support of the mission and vision of Holy Cross, this individual will:

• Foster meaningful worship for the Holy Cross community in person and online
• Prepare choirs and other worship participants to lead and enhance worship

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

• Lead and support the congregation’s song on piano, organ, and other instruments
• Plan chancel and handbell choir rehearsals and participation in worship
• Support the growth of musicians at all levels
• Schedule and rehearse cantors, instrumentalists, and guest musicians as needed
• Order music and maintain music library
• Ensure compliance with copyright and streaming licenses
• Perform, or oversee, tuning and other maintenance of instruments

REQUIRED SKILLS

• Demonstrated ability to read music, play piano and/or organ, and lead congregational song
• Broad background in corporate song (hymnody, global music, etc.)
• Desire and ability to nurture musicians of all calibers through rehearsals and performances
• Strong administrative and organizational skills
• Willingness to recruit and engage musicians of different ages and ability levels

DESIRED SKILLS

• Degree in music
• Experience leading vocal and handbell choirs and/or instrumental ensembles in rehearsals and performances
• Enjoys working collaboratively with church staff, council, and volunteers
• Familiarity with traditional and contemporary Lutheran liturgical worship
• Experience in a cantor/soloist role
• Knowledge of copyright and related compliance
