Contemporary Music Worship Leader

The Contemporary Music Worship Leader will have the responsibility for all musical aspects of the Contemporary Worship Service. The leader will work with the Pastor and the Worship Musicians to create a meaningful worship experience for the congregation.

Principal Position Duties:

Work closely with Pastor and lay leaders to develop each worship service by choosing music and songs that communicate the themes or purpose of the service.
Coordinate musical selections and combined pieces with traditional service musician for special worship services or services where styles are intermixed.
Coordinate musical selections with Christian Education and Youth leaders for special services where the youth are in leadership roles.
Choose musical aspects of worship that bring glory and honor to God that are consistent with the biblical, theological and liturgical integrity of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America.
Pray for and with the band members, lead them spiritually, and encourage them in their call to lead worship.
Provide musical leadership to encourage and engage the congregation in worship and participation.
Provide all necessary tools to musicians, such as recordings, chord charts and lead sheets, in a timely fashion to allow appropriate time for preparation and rehearsal.
Provide musical direction, including guidance in aspects such as style, rhythm, speed, harmonies, and solos.
Practice with the musicians weekly, coordinating schedules and providing communication with each member.
Recruit new musicians and singers and have access to substitute musicians.
Be available for all regular worship services and preferably for special engagements such as holiday services, mid-week services, etc.
Partner with the sound and video volunteers to coordinate technical aspects of the service.
Utilize and grow the skills and talents of each member of the band and production staff.
Meet regularly with the Worship and Music Committee.
Qualifications:

Belief in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. Belief in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord. Belief in the Holy Spirit. And, a belief and commitment to welcome all people, at all times, without exception to worship at Hope Lutheran Church.
Ability to work with a team.
Music leadership experience.
Play one or more instruments, guitar preferable.
Ability to lead vocals.
Familiarity with contemporary Christian music and non-traditional worship.
Ability to engage the congregation.
Ability to work with people who have a variety of musical skills to produce effective music leadership.
Ability to help individuals grow musically, spiritually, and in their ability to lead worship as a group.
Communication skills.
Organizational skills.
Understanding and appreciation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America’s beliefs and heritage.
Efficient use and working knowledge of worship planning programs, such as Planning Center On-line, Song Select, and Song Show Plus. Knowledge of digital sound and recording equipment and other music composition programs preferred.
Staff Relationship:

Reports to the pastor.
Annual reviews with a member of the Executive Council, the Pastor and Director of Worship & Music Committee.
Compensation:
Salaried part-time position, pay and vacation is at market rates commensurate with capabilities and skills.
