POSITION DESCRIPTION: DIRECTOR OF MUSIC MINISTRIES

 

GENERAL STATEMENT:

The Director of Music Ministries is responsible for promoting, encouraging, and coordinating the music ministry of Trinity Lutheran Church, to the glory of God.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A.     Bachelor’s Degree in church music or music education or equivalent training and experience in the field of music.

B.     Ability to work well with people of all ages and musical abilities.

C.      Good organizational skills

D.     Proficiency as an organist and pianist.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

A.     Plan Trinity’s ministry through music in consultation with Senior Pastor, musical ensemble directors and Worship Committee. (Worship planning)

B.     Coordinate Trinity’s entire music program with other music staff and volunteers, supervising such groups.

C.      Staff liaison to the Worship Committee and responsible for the oversight of Worship and Music budgets.

D.     Track and report use of copyrighted music (used on ProPresenter for livestreaming and for radio broadcast)

E.      Direct the Celebration Worship Team (10:45).

F.      Coordinate special musician schedules.

G.     Open to development of other musical groups.

H.     Assist with the existing Handbell Choir and its director.

I.       Accompany the existing Trinity Choir and coordinate with its director.

J.       Serve as primary musician for two Sunday worship services plus special services.

K.      Provide music or musical consultation for church weddings and funerals.  (Additional compensation is received from the people served based on congregation guidelines).

L.      Attend weekly staff meetings.

POTENTIAL ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

A.     Participate in re-development of a third worship service as part of the weekly worship schedule.

B.     Primary developer and coordinator for Church Organist Workshop to be held summer 2025 and summer 2026.  Participation in and coordinator for church musician colleague groups beginning fall 2024/winter 2025.  Management of grant reporting related to workshops and colleague groups.

Trinity Lutheran Church is an established congregation of approximately 1200 members in Jamestown, North Dakota. We are enthusiastic about the future of Trinity and the projected economic growth in the area. We are a congregation that is characterized by multiple weekly worship services and styles, intergenerational participation in the Sunday School and Confirmation programs, and a commitment to service in the community.

 

Trinity’s pipe organ was built by the Johnson Organ Company of Fargo, ND in 1976 and was enlarged in 1984.  It has 24 ranks across 2 manuals.
